Jennifer Sy, PhD

BIOGRAPHY

Jennifer Sy, Ph.D. is the Training Director and a Behavior Therapist at the OCD Institute of Texas and Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Sy is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the intensive treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. At the OCD Institute of Texas, she provides evidence-based treatment to adults, adolescents, and children in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and residential levels of care. She also oversees the institute’s clinical training program, and has been mentoring practicum students and postdoctoral fellows in the delivery of exposure-based and behavioral therapies since 2014.

Dr. Sy earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wyoming, where her research focused on mechanisms influencing the effectiveness of exposure therapy for anxiety disorders. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Houston OCD Program (now OCD Institute of Texas).

 

Her clinical and supervisory work emphasize a compassionate, data-driven approach that integrates principles of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and interpersonal approaches such as Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT). In addition to her clinical leadership, Dr. Sy contributes to the field through research, teaching, and professional service. She has published in leading journals including Behaviour Research and Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer and conference presenter for national professional organizations.

Dr. Sy’s professional efforts center on improving access to high-quality, evidence-based treatment for OCD and anxiety disorders and advancing the next generation of clinicians through education and training.
