What is Contamination OCD?

The OCD Institute of Texas team explores the complexities of contamination OCD, characterized by intense fears of contamination from sources like germs, chemicals, or even thoughts. These fears lead to compulsive behaviors such as excessive cleaning and avoidance of perceived contaminants. We emphasize that these fears often stem from feelings of disgust or moral concerns, not just health anxieties. We also highlight Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy as an effective treatment to help individuals manage and overcome these challenges.
